Banyuwangi Regency continues to solidify its reputation as a premier tourism destination in Indonesia. To enhance the experience of visitors, the Banyuwangi Regency Government has officially launched a free tourist transportation service that operates every weekend and covers a range of popular destinations.
This initiative was announced by Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani on Saturday (May 17, 2025). In her statement, Ipuk emphasized that the program aims to accommodate not only tourists from outside the region but also local residents who wish to explore more of Banyuwangi.
“This program is to facilitate tourists who are on vacation in Banyuwangi. However, Banyuwangi residents who want to take advantage of this service are also welcome,” said Regent Ipuk.
The complimentary transportation service operates across 13 major routes leading to top-tier attractions. These include Bedil Island, Mustika Beach, Red Island, Doesoen Kakao, Umbul Bening Baths, the Banyuwangi Urban City Tour, Alas Purwo National Park, and Wedi Ireng Beach.
Other highlighted routes serve Ijen Crater, the Djawatan Forest, Grand Watudodol Beach, Bangsring Underwater, and Gumuk Kantong. Each destination offers unique experiences, from natural wonders to cultural heritage, making Banyuwangi a diverse travel hotspot.
“This is part of our service for tourists who come to Banyuwangi. So come to Banyuwangi,” Ipuk added, inviting travelers to visit.
The service is available every Saturday and Sunday. The fleet includes one large bus with 43 seats, one medium-sized bus with 25 seats, and one minibus with 14 seats—each aimed at ensuring visitor comfort and convenience.
According to I Komang Sudira Atmaja, Head of Banyuwangi’s Transportation Agency, all vehicles depart from the Taman Sritanjung parking area at 07:30 AM on both days. For visitors planning to hike Mount Ijen, there is a special night departure at 10:00 PM to align with the mountain’s early morning climbing schedule.
To utilize the free transportation, tourists must register via the “Smart Kampung” mobile application developed by the Banyuwangi Government. In the app, users can access the “All Menu” section, choose the Transportation Agency option, and then select “Free Tourist Transportation.” After that, they may choose a destination, preferred date, and departure time.
Schedules and seat availability are adjusted based on quota limits and the number of registrants. Both individuals and groups—such as communities or tour organizers—are encouraged to register in advance.
“Individuals or groups or communities can register,” said Komang.
In addition to this free transportation, a subsidized tourism transport service is also available, a collaboration between the Ministry of Transportation and DAMRI. This service covers routes to Red Island and Ijen Crater, operating daily with a fleet of four minibuses.
The subsidized ride costs only IDR 30,000 per passenger. Reservations can be made online through the DAMRI app, Traveloka, RedBus, or directly at the DAMRI office in Banyuwangi.
With the launch of both free and subsidized transport services, Banyuwangi is making it easier than ever for tourists to discover its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural attractions. This initiative not only enhances tourist satisfaction but also strengthens local tourism-based economic growth through inclusive, accessible, and sustainable programs.
For anyone planning a getaway filled with natural wonders and cultural treasures, Banyuwangi’s transportation services are the perfect gateway to unforgettable travel experiences.
